Cast bronze sleeve bushings – Ø6 – 200 mm and to drawing

Plain cylindrical bushes machined from continuous-cast bronze tube: C93200 / SAE 660 (RG7) as standard, C93700 / SAE 64, CuSn12, CuSn10P, LG2 / C83600, aluminium bronze and C86300 in the same sizes to order. Pressed into an H7 housing, run against an e7 / e8 steel shaft, greased through a hole or grooves. Sleeve bushing, sleeve bearing, plain bushing and bronze bush all name this part.

  • 46standard bores Ø6 – 200 mm
  • 3wall thicknesses per bore
  • E6 / s6bore / outside tolerance (ISO 4379)
  • 12alloys in the same sizes

A cast bronze sleeve bushing is a solid cylindrical bearing – bore d, outside diameter D, length L – with no backing and no liner: the whole wall is cast bearing bronze. It is delivered finished on all surfaces with the tolerances of ISO 4379, ready to press in.

  • 46 standard bores Ø6 – 200 mm, each with three outside diameters (thin, medium, thick wall) and three lengths – 400 or so standard sizes
  • Bore E6 before fitting (closes to about H8 in an H7 housing), outside s6 up to Ø120 / r6 above, length h13, chamfers 45° outside and 15° inside
  • Default alloy C93200 / SAE 660: 65–75 HB, 25 N/mm² moving load, unhardened shafts acceptable
  • Options machined at no tooling cost: oil holes, groove patterns G2 – G6, cut-to-length, other alloys, bore for finishing after fitting
  • Not in the table – Ø3 to Ø1000 mm, inch sizes, stepped bushes – machined to drawing with the same lead time

Standard sizes – filter by bore

ISO 4379 Table 1, Type C. Each bore has three outside diameters; the code carries all three dimensions, so 660-253020 is a C93200 bush Ø25 × Ø30 × 20 mm. Sizes in parentheses in the standard are for special applications and shown greyed. The weight column is for C93200; use it for freight and for the price per kilogram some markets quote.

Bore in parentheses in ISO 4379: for special applications only.

Weight per piece in kg, plain part in C93200 (8.93 g/cm³); aluminium bronze is about 16 % lighter, SAE 67 about 4 % heavier.

Same sizes in any other alloy: replace 660 by the grade code (937, 938, 483, 481, 480, 905, 836, 954, 955, AFM, 863). Lead times differ for aluminium bronze and C86300 because the stock is bought per order.

Order codes, tolerances and delivered condition

Order codes read grade – bore – outside Ø – length, each dimension with at least two digits: 660-253020 is Ø25 × Ø30 × 20 in C93200, 660-100115100 is Ø100 × Ø115 × 100. A groove pattern is added as a suffix (660-404840-G2 = straight grooves G2), an oil hole as -H.

Delivered condition follows ISO 4379 Table 3: bore E6, outside diameter s6 (to Ø120) or r6 (above), length h13, flange Ø d11 where there is one. Pressed into an H7 housing the bore closes and lands at about tolerance position H, grade IT8 – the running clearance is then set by the shaft, e7 for general duty, g7 for precision. Bushes are delivered finished; a bore for reaming or boring in place after fitting is machined on request when the drawing calls for a tighter fit than the press-in gives.

For your enquiry:Quote the order code or d × D × L, alloy, quantity and whether the bore must be finished after fitting.

Options: oil holes, grooves, cut lengths, alloys

Every standard size is machined from tube, so options are programme changes rather than special tooling. Order them when the position needs them – a plain bore with an oil hole is right for most greased pins.

  • Oil hole (-H): one radial hole under the grease nipple, chamfered in the bore; position from the end face and angle to your drawing
  • Groove patterns G2 – G6: straight axial (G2), circumferential (G3), figure-8 (G4), double figure-8 (G5), spiral (G6); the lubrication page explains which movement each suits
  • Non-standard length: any L cut from the same tube – short spacers to long guide bushes
  • Alloy: the twelve grades of the programme; lead-free (CuSn12, CuSn10, C90500) for drinking-water and food-machinery positions
  • Bore for finishing in place: delivered with 0.1 – 0.3 mm stock on the bore for reaming or boring after pressing, when alignment of several bushes matters

For your enquiry:Name the groove code or sketch the pattern; without a note we deliver the plain bore.

Alloys available in this form

All twelve grades are machined into the same ISO 4379 sizes; C93200 is the tube most readily available from the casters, the others are bought as bar or tube per order. The families and when to move from one to the next:

Installation and lubrication in three points

Press fit: with the s6 / r6 outside diameter in an H7 housing the interference is 14 – 48 µm at Ø30 and 29 – 78 µm at Ø80. Thin-wall bushes pass most of it on to the bore, which is why the delivered bore is E6 (wide) and lands near H8 after pressing. Press from the chamfered end with a stepped mandrel; never hammer on the bronze.

Running clearance: bore H8 after fitting against an e7 shaft gives 40 – 94 µm at Ø30 and 60 – 136 µm at Ø80 – roughly 0.1 – 0.3 % of the diameter, the range cast bronze wants for grease. Take e8 for hot positions, misalignment and dirty grease, g7 for precise, oil-lubricated spindles.

Relubrication: grease until fresh grease shows at both ends, at an interval set by load, speed and dirt – daily on a dusty excavator pin, weekly or monthly on a clean indoor pivot. An oil hole under the nipple and G4 figure-8 grooves spread the grease over the whole bore of a rotating shaft. The lubrication page covers grease types, grooves and intervals.

Running clearance Interference (s6 / r6 in H7) Housing H7Shaft e7 / g7Cast bronze bush
Bush pressed into an H7 housing with the s6 / r6 outside diameter; the running clearance is set by the shaft tolerance – e7 for general duty, e8 for heavier load or dirt, g7 for precision.

How to order a sleeve bushing

Pick the size in the table and click the length, or write the order code into the form. For a size that is not listed send d × D × L – the wall should be at least 0.08 × d plus 1.5 mm for pressing – or a drawing.

Example

660-253020

C93200 / SAE 660 sleeve bushing Ø25 bore × Ø30 outside × 20 long, plain bore, ISO 4379 tolerances.

  • Order code or d × D × L (mm or inch)
  • Alloy – C93200 unless stated; give the designation on your drawing and we confirm the equivalent
  • Quantity now and expected per year
  • Duty in one line: load, movement (rotating / oscillating), speed or rpm, temperature, medium

Frequently asked questions

Do you have metric sizes in stock?

We do not sell finished bushings off the shelf; every size is machined per order from continuous-cast tube. C93200 tube is the most readily available, so standard sleeves are quick. Samples in 3 – 5 days; the batch lead time is stated in the quotation and depends on quantity and alloy – aluminium bronze and C86300 stock is bought per order.

Can I get a size that is not in the table?

Yes – anything from Ø3 to Ø1000 mm, inch sizes included, at the same lead time. Send d × D × L or a drawing; the custom page lists what we need. There is no minimum quantity and no tooling charge, because every bush is turned and bored from tube or bar.

Is the bore finished to size, or do I ream after pressing?

Standard bushes are delivered finished to ISO 4379: bore E6, which closes to about H8 when pressed into an H7 housing – no reaming needed for a general-duty e7 shaft. If several bushes must be in line, or you need a closer fit, order the bore with 0.1 – 0.3 mm stock for boring or reaming in place.

What are the disadvantages of a bronze sleeve bearing?

It needs lubrication and someone to apply it; it is limited to about 0.5 m/s under grease; its friction (0.08 – 0.15) is higher than a rolling bearing; and a hard shaft is needed for the hard alloys. In return it takes shock, dirt and misalignment that destroy rolling bearings and thin liners, and it can be re-bored.

Which is better for a sleeve bushing, brass or bronze?

Bronze. Ordinary brass (CuZn) is not a bearing material against steel – it galls. Only the high-strength "manganese bronzes" (C86300 class), which are technically brasses, are bearing alloys, and they are the hardest grade in this programme. The bronze-vs-brass page has the comparison.

Not in the table?

Send d × D × L or a drawing – no minimum order, samples in 3 – 5 days, quotation within 12 hours.
